ABOUT

Courtney Carlin, MS, LPC

Why did I choose to be a therapist? I had a professor, Dr. Lori Simons, who said that I am good with people and I should try majoring in psychology. I took the jump and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Listening, being present, and teaching techniques and strategies to children and their families has become my passion. I received my bachelors degree from Widener University then went on to pursue my masters at Chestnut Hill College. At CHC I pursued child and adolescent therapy. After graduating I went on to work in the special education program at Cherry Hill West High School. That was the start of my career. Since then I have had experience working in residential settings, outpatient facilities, in home services through performcare, and private practices. I am formally trained to complete the ADOS-2 for autism and able to administer the Conners assessment. Throughout my career I have worked with people of all ages with a variety of diagnosis. I have had significant success with autism, adhd, postpartum depression, anxiety, and with children who struggle with oppositional behaviors. In my down time I love spending time with my family, rooting for Philadelphia teams, eating delicious food, trivia, and playing golf.

Erin Matthews, Birth Worker, CEO

Working with children and supporting family’s is a great passion of mine. I believe effective parenting is one of the best ways to improve the world, and parenting begins with pregnancy and birth. My greatest pleasure as a birth doula and childbirth educator is watching women become confident, empowered and excited about the birth and early parenting of their children. I firmly believe in using any fear and anxiety we might have to examine our choices and beliefs, and find ways of birthing and parenting that are just right for us. When I think about the power of preparing for labor, birth, and parenthood, Maya Angelou said it best: “When you know better, you do better…”.My job as your doula and childbirth educator is to help you reach for the optimistic end of your realistic range of possibilities.  I believe happiness comes from achieving realistic expectations. My mission is to combat the alarming rates of Black maternal mortality and morbidity by creating a safe space for mama’s to thrive. culturally and linguistically congruent care that supports communication between mothers and their health care team.
